Expedition FAQ

Essential preparation checklists, physical requirements, permit logistics, and high-altitude safety guidelines.

Altitude, Health & Safety

How do you manage high altitude and acclimatization?

Our itineraries are specifically structured for safety. For example, on our Ladakh tour, we spend the first 48 hours completely at rest in Leh (11,500 ft) to allow natural barometric adaptation. In addition, our 4x4 support convoy tracks the formations carrying high-flow medical oxygen cylinders, pulse oximeters, and extensive emergency trauma equipment, managed by Wilderness First Responders (WFR).

What physical fitness levels are required?

While you do not need to be an elite athlete, you must have good cardiovascular fitness. Negotiating off-camber gravel loops and high-altitude winds at 14,000+ feet for 6 to 8 hours a day is physically demanding. We require all prospective riders to undergo a standard cardiovascular check prior to final departure.

Logistics, Visas & Permits

Who handles the Inner-Line Permits for border zones?

We do! Ride & Fire completely manages the application and clearance for all local Inner-Line Permits (ILP) and restricted border areas (such as Nubra, Pangong, and Spiti border checkpoints). This service is fully integrated and all-inclusive within your registration queue spot. Simply upload your passport details and visa copies to our secure booking file.

What visa is required to enter India / Thailand?

For India expeditions, foreign nationals require a valid Tourist Visa (e-Tourist Visa is highly recommended and can be easily processed online 30 days prior to departure). For our Southeast Asia tours, visa requirements vary by nationality (many European, US, and UK citizens enjoy 30-day visa-exempt entry into Thailand).

Riding Qualifications & Gear

Do I need a motorcycle license and off-road experience?

Yes. You must hold a valid motorcycle operator license in your home country, coupled with an International Driving Permit (IDP) clearly showing motorcycle classification. While prior off-road racing experience is not required, you must have strong, confident street riding fundamentals (minimum 2+ years of street riding). Our lead guides provide technical off-pavement tutorials during acclimatization days.

What personal riding gear should I bring?

You must bring your own premium personal riding safety gear. This includes: a full-face ECE/DOT-approved helmet, a four-season adventure jacket and pants with CE protection inserts, waterproof riding boots (adventure/motocross style with ankle bracing), and warm, waterproof gloves. A comprehensive packing checklist is sent upon slot confirmation.
